What To Bring

The safari season starts in March after the summer rains. For the most part the weather is dry and warm, but it does get cold in June and July particularly in the evenings. It is important to bring appropriate clothes depending on the time of the season. Below is a guide line of what to bring:

  • 2 or 3 pairs of long pants (Preferably Jeans)
  • 2 or 3 pairs of Short pants
  • 2 or 3 T-shirts
  • 1 or 2 sweaters
  • 1 Windbreaker
  • 1 light Jacket
  • A Heavy Jacket
  • Sports Bras for ladies (the country roads are very bumpy)
  • Ankle high Leather boots (in case we go bush walking)
  • Slippers or Sandals
  • A wide brim hat (summer)
  • A beanie and scarf (winter)
  • A pair or 2 of Sunglasses
  • Books to read
  • iPad/iPod
  • Lots of Sunscreen
  • A small Medical kit
  • Anti Malaria tablets (please consult your physician about best possible drugs)

Camera Equipment

The modern point and shoot cameras are of such high quality these days that they are sufficient enough. However for the keen photographers, bigger equipment is necessary. You can then bring:

  • 100-300mm Lens
  • 400mm or bigger (Optional)
  • A mono pod to steady the camera, if bringing bigger lenses
  • Extra batteries
  • Extra memory cards
  • An adapter for your battery charger
  • Cigarette lighter charging adapter
  • Laptop/external hard drive (Optional)
  • A pair of Binoculars (8-30mm is fine for general game viewing, 10-50mm recommended for birding)

Warning:

Royale Wilderness activities/safaris involve camping in remote wilderness areas of Botswana. While the safaris are non participatory and comfortable, participants must be reasonably fit!!!
